Is there anyone reading
this? I get no e-mails, hate or otherwise, regarding the News Section.
Am I writing this for myself? Is there no one left on this earth but me?
If not, then here are my
updates, concise and link-heavy:
I'm on a podcast: Link
I wrote a short play: Link
I'm going to be in a
play: Link
And hey, if you read
this, let me know. I
would love to know that I'm not the only one reading this.
October

One of my favorite
things that dogs do? The way that they're able to look like a croissant
of fur when they curl up to sleep. Just thought I'd share that.
A bit of exciting news
that was officially announced today: I will be one of the three writers
participating in the 2011-2012 PDC @ Plays & Players Playwriting
Residency. What does that mean, exactly? Well that's what I'll find out
over the next year. I do know that this is an exciting opportunity to
grow as a playwright with the help of a wonderful playwriting
organization and a fantastic theatre. The other writers in this program
are Jeffrey Stanley and Brian Grace-Duff, and could not be happier to
be sharing the stage with two incredibly talented guys.
Also, today is the
birthday of my brother-in-law Jeremy Troutt. He's amazing. At
everything. That is all.

Oh, look at these
cobwebs all over my website! Let me dust those off. Sorry about that.
Now that I'm getting
into the groove of my day job, and I've completed my move into a new
place filled with artists, I can actually start udpating my online
presence again. Because if it's not online, then does it really count?
While there's not much
to report on (at least not yet, as some developments are still
developing), come Summer 2012, you can see my handiwork in Bootless
Artworks' Star
Wars The Musical, for which I
commissioned to write the book. I previously worked with Bootless in
their production of The 25th Annual
Putnam County Spelling Bee,
so this should be good. I'll of course keep you updated.
Also, my wife and I
learned this week that she will be studying Theatre at Trinity College
in Dublin for the Spring Semester. I will not be able to join her in
her five-month journey, so any fellow students out there, make sure to
show her around town, show her the ropes, make sure she has a good time.
And until next time (which should be soon), keep the sun at your back.
July
20, 2011
The last month has
brought about a number of amazing developments. Let's get the
not-theater-related news out of the way: I'm now fully employed. It's
nice to have something legitimate to get in the way of my writing.
Speaking of not that, I
will finally be seen in a Philadelphia show that is not a 24-Hour
Theater or a Charity Show (not that there's anything wrong with those,
but there's something to be said for a run longer than one weekend). I
will be playing the role of Joe in Leslye Headland's "Bachelorette" at
Luna Theater Company. It is an amazing script, and promises to be a
fantastic production. Come February 2012, be sure to check it out.
Hey, remember when I was talking about Luna in the previous paragraph?
Well, if you're a writer, you have two opportunities. The theater now
has an open
submission policy, and it is also accepting
submissions for its first annual 10-minute play festival. See? See
how I'm being all Literary Manager-y?
And now, back to script
reading.
June
26, 2011
Quite a number of
updates this time around. Are you sitting? Do you
have a drink? Are you surrounded by loved ones? Good. Then let's
proceed...
I'll get the non-theater related news out of the way first. After a
three-month safari filled with anxiety and self-doubt, I now have
steady employment again. Finally, I can stop worrying about how to pay
the bills and get back to writing things that will not pay the bills.
Speaking of which, on the writing front, there are a few upcoming
projects to look out for. Tetromino
Song
will most likely be featured in a festival for the Philadelphia Fringe
Festival. Also, I have received a commission to write a Halloween show
for La Habra Depot Theatre in La Habra, California. More details about
both projects will be forthcoming.
Finally, on the acting front, Philadelphia audiences will finally be
able to see me on a stage for longer than a couple nights. I will be
playing the role of Joe in
Leslye Headland's brilliant comedy Bachelorette,
which will be making its Philadelphia premiere at the Luna Theater
Company. The production will drop in Center City next February. More
details on that as it draws nearer.
And as I draw this update to a close, I invite you to revisit my Tumblr
page Lovingly
Alive,
as I have actually been updating it again. You're
welcome, world.
June
10, 2011
That's right! An update
sooner than usual!
If you've noticed, the
website has a bit of a face lift. Not only is there a change in font
(farewell, Courier New. Welcome, Georgia), but the Writing page
has changed. Now you can actually read samples of my full-length work,
from produced plays such as "Revolution
And A Sandwich" and the Flying Spaghetti Monster plays, to
as-yet-unproduced plays like "Bad Monster" and "Rain". Enjoy reading 20
pages of my work!
May 31, 2011
Have
you noticed
that
I've been doing these updates once a month? Yeah, you have? Me, too.
You would think with this whole unemployment thing, I would be able to
update this more. However, "Portal 2" won't play itself.
Performances for "Revolution & A Sandwich" are now finished. It
was a wonderful production, and I want to thank everyone involved, as
well as everyone who came. So, what now? Well, look out for something
called "Dark Mondays" coming soon, as well as a few plays that are
currently in development (a.k.a. living in my brain).
In the meantime, check out my
YouTube channel for a couple of
editing projects I've been working on. I promise that I will have more
professional updates in the
future.
April
28, 2011
Rehearsals are
starting for The Shakedown Project's "Revolution and Sandwich", and
performances start May 20th. Check
out
their website to see my latest
work.
In other news, I will be
taking on duties as Literary Manager for Philadelphia's Luna Theater
Company. Luna is a fantastic company who this season mounted fantastic
productions of Sarah Kane's "Blasted" and Will Eno's "Thom Pain (based
on nothing)". We will soon be implementing an open submission policy. Check
out their
website soon for updates.
Also, I will be helping
to create a new web-series. Details will be forthcoming on this, as it
is still in the development stage. I would tell you to check out a
website, but there is not one as of yet. And haven't I pointed you to
enough websites already?
March 28, 2011
As of this week,
I am entering a new realm in my playwriting career (although
"playwriting career" is an oxymoron). I am officially self-publishing.
If you have a Kindle, you can now download my award-ignored adaptation
"Re: Woyzeck". A non-Kindle edition will be coming soon via Google
eBooks. You can also expect an upcoming release for my much-tolerated
Flying Spaghetti Monster Plays. For now, all links to products can be
found on my
Shop page.
Also, I'm in need of
steady employment. So if you've been loving this site, live in the
nearby Philadelphia area and have a middle-class income position that
you've been dying to fill, I'd be forever grateful. Or if you're a
theater company and want a commission in which you help discover a new
theatrical talent, I'd be even more eternally grateful (how can you get
more eternity from forever? That's a question for perfume ad
copywriters).
February 4, 2011
The Micro-Fest
was a fantastic weekend. Between Justin Jain's "ShiFt/TransFer", Brian
Osborne/Whit McLaughlin's "The Word", Team Sunshine's "Punchkapow",
Headlong Dance Theater's "Red Rovers" and the collection of fantastic
modern dance pieces, it was a beautiful meeting of some of the city's
finest theatrical artists.
So, where to go now? Well, I'm hoping to develop a piece for this
year's Philadelphia Fringe Festival. More details on that (at least, if
it goes anywhere. If you don't ever hear about this again, then assume
it's not happening).
Also, a bit of exciting news in the publishing world: You can now buy
my full-length play "American Way", as well as my short plays "Garbage
Strike" and "A Dollar-Fifty" for your Kindle or other e-book reader.
Check out the Shop
part of my site. It
actually has more than two links now. If this is the big time (it
isn't), I like how it feels (even though it isn't).
January 26, 2011
The day is nigh.
The work-in-progress performance of "Revolution And A Sandwich" is
coming up this Saturday, January 29th at 11:30 a.m. (the perfect time
for revolutionary multimedia theatre). Tickets for the entire festival
are $75 ($50 for students), and if you just want to see my show, it
will be $15.
The performance will take place at the Community Education Center at
3500 Lancaster Ave in Philadelphia (a short walk northwest from the
34th Street Station). Tickets can be purchased at the
following link. And if you can't
make it out to see the show, you
can still see a live stream of the show at
the
following link. So basically
what I'm saying is that there's no
reason for you to not see the show. Unless you're busy. Only then.
January 14, 2011
So, it's been a
while since I updated my News page. What is the reason? I
could make excuses. But I just didn't do it. It's not for
lack of news. So, let's commence:
"Revolution And A
Sandwich" is going strong. The show was accepted as a
featured
performer in the Network of Ensemble Theaters' Micro-Fest: Philly, specializing in
genre-defying work.
So it will have a "work-in-progress" performance on Saturday,
January 29th at 11:30 a.m. I'd love if you could make it out
and
see the show before its premiere performance (which will be in late
May).
Also, my latest play
"Bad Monster" is currently being rejected by theaters around the
country. However, it has also received some interest from a
few
other theaters as well. I don't want to say just who yet,
because
they may not want to be associated with me after actually reading the
script. But I'll definitely let you know if anything comes of
that.
And I promise that it
will not be three months until my next update.
October 13, 2010
Lots of writing
news to report at the moment. As of yesterday, "Bad Monster"
is
now in the literary departments of over 40 theaters in the United
States and England. I'll let you know if anything comes of
any of
those (if you don't hear anything about "Bad Monster" after this, it's
safe to assume nothing happened. I'm not one to really report
on
rejection).
Also, my latest play "Revolution and a Sandwich" is underway.
First, there is a fundraiser for the play to be held on
October
27th at the Mill Creek Tavern on 42nd and Chestnut in Philadelphia.
The party starts at 8:00 p.m. and will feature Abstract
Verses,
Taco, Caboder (formerly Trench Mouth), Wild Rompit and Kevin &
The
Shapes. Cover charge is $7 and Halloween costumes are
encouraged.
And if you are interested in auditioning for the show, auditions will
be on November 6th and 7th from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Mandell
Theater's Green Room at Drexel University, on 33rd and Chestnut.
I'd love to have you come out.
That's all for now. More details as they develop...
September 30, 2010
So, now I have a
chance to relax. "25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee" has
opened and is starting its second weekend (tickets available here...Shameless plug), and
"Revolution and a
Sandwich" is now written, with auditions happening soon. So
now
it's on to re-writes for "Bad Monster", as well as hearing back on a
couple opportunities. More details on that as they develop.
August 30, 2010
Tickets are now
on sale for Bootless Artworks' production of "25th Annual Putnam County
Spelling Bee". If you're in the Delaware area and want to see
me
try doing a musical after a few years away, you can (and should) get
tickets here.
August 6, 2010
With all of the news of
my writing, there's been little talk of my acting. Well,
that's
about to change next month, when I will be appearing as Barfee in "The
25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee" at Bootless Artworks in New
Castle, DE. I'm not quite the body type for Barfee, but
nonetheless I am quite excited to be musical-ing it up again.
The
show will be in September and October.
Meanwhile, I am hard at
work at "Revolution and a Sandwich" for The Shakedown Project.
More details on that as they develop.
And also, make sure to check
out my blog for the latest post
on my
obsessive personality.
July 22, 2010
After a month
spent in a sort of creative limbo, I am now involved in two projects,
one immediate and one in the near future.
First and foremost, I am working on my first paid commission.
It
is for The Shakedown Project, a really exciting new company here in
Philadelphia. Their first production "Jonathan" was a really
unique mind-bending trip, and I'm excited to be working with them for
their second production, which I have entitled "Revolution and a
Sandwich".
The first fundraiser for the show is this Wednesday, July 28th. If
you're on the Book of Face, the event can be found here.
Since this will help me get paid, I'd
love for everyone to attend.
Also, this Saturday, the Parallax Theatre Company will be producing a
24 Hour Theater festival. I will be one of the actors, and my
lovely wife will be helping with the production. It will be at 8:00
p.m. on Saturday, July 24th at the Caplan Studio Theatre, on the 16th
floor of 211 S. Broad St. in Philadelphia.
Hope to see you there!
June 28, 2010
A reminder:
The reading of my latest play "Bad Monster" is tonight,
starring
Samantha Kristina Clarke, Kittson O'Neill, Bob Stineman and Julie
Grega. If you're in Philadelphia tonight, head over to Time
Restaurant on 13th & Sansom at 7:30 p.m. The details are here.
Also, I'll be meeting this week with the Artistic Director of an
up-and-coming theater company in town for a possible collaboration.
More on that as details develop.
Finally, I have returned to the blogosphere, which is apparently where
the youth of today go to share their thoughts. Check it out here.
Hope to see you tonight!
June 25, 2010
So the "Bad
Monster" reading is officially back on. If you're in the
Philadelphia area, it's going to be on Monday, June 28th at 7:30 p.m.
at Time Restaurant in Center City. Details can be found here.
Hope to see
you there!
Also, if you missed Wilma Theater's presentation of Vaclav Havel's
"Leaving", you missed out on a fantastic show. Kudos to the
cast
and crew, especially Luigi Sottile.
June 21, 2010
If you were
planning on attending the reading of my latest play "Bad Monster" in
Philadelphia tonight, well ... that's not happening. At
least,
not tonight. It's been postponed until a later date, due to
an
issue with the space. As soon as I find out what that date
is,
I'll post it here. Sorry for the inconvenience, everyone.
June
9, 2010
Are you in Orange
County for the month of June? Then make sure to check out my
sister in an awesome production of Wallace Shawn's "The Fever" at
Fullerton's Monkey Wrench Collective. Click here
for info.
Talking after the
performance, the director challenged me to make a YouTube video taking
a different look at Shawn's play. So I accepted. Here
it is. Enjoy!
May 24, 2010
I am taking a
break from my reading and analysis of the "Lost" finale ("Live
together, die alone" is all I'm going to say) to make two
announcements, both of which mean a lot to me (though probably not much
to you. Sorry):
First, I would like to
welcome my new nephew into the world. His name is Jacob
Madison
Hulme, and he's, ya know, a baby and all. Cute, curious,
fragile,
the whole thing. I'd post pictures, but that's not what I do.
Second, for those who
will be in Philadelphia in June, there will be a free reading of my
latest play "Bad Monster" on June 21st at Time Restaurant on
13th
and Sansom. Casting is not final, so come back for more
details
on that. I'd love if you could be there. Yes, you.
I'm looking right at you.
May 10, 2010
Today is my
birthday! 28 years ago, I was being born in England at the
same
time that "Nine", the Broadway musical about a filmmaker, was opening
on Broadway. Perhaps a sign of things to come? Only
time
will tell.
May 6, 2010
This is the last
weekend to see the world premiere of "When We Go Upon The Sea" by Lee
Blessing at InterAct Theatre Company in Philadelphia. I saw
it a
couple weeks ago, and it's great. If you want to see a play
about
George W. Bush that chooses genuine human emotion over didactic
politics or cheap "Dubya" jokes, check it out.
Also, I put links to my Facebook and Twitter pages on my homepage.
It's called bringing it to the modern era.
April 29, 2010
Two bits of news:
First, the News Section will be shifting to a first-person
narrative. It's a bit ridiculous to pretend that there's some
other "webmaster" updating this site, when it's really just me.
So...hi! I'm Jeremy. Nice to meet you.
Second, I just finished a new full-length play, entitled "Bad Monster".
I will be directing a reading of it in Philadelphia on June
21st. If you're in the area during that time, check out the
Philadelphia Dramatists Center link to get details.
March 25, 2010
Today marks the
conclusion of "The 15th Line". Now Jeremy goes back to
writing
the kind of plays that take place on traditional stages. If
you
wish to read the entire script, you can go

After a week of
deliberation, Jeremy's Wikipedia page has been deemed notable, and will
be kept. It is now very heavily sourced, with an average of
one
reference for every ten words. Big thanks to Wikipedia user Bwilkins
for making the final decision, as well as to Jezhotwells and Banjeboi
for fighting the good fight. Check
out the
Wikipedia page here.
July 6, 2009
The coverage on
"140: A Twitter Performance" continues to slowly (very slowly) spread
around the world. A theater website in Croatia has written an
article about the performance. For those of you fluent in
Croatian, the link
can
be found here. Uraa!
July 6, 2009
Jeremy's
Wikipedia page has been both considered for deletion and flagged for
rescue. There's quite the debate over Jeremy's notability
going
on over there. If you're a regular contributor to Wikipedia,
head
on over and weigh in. Is Jeremy notable or not? You
be the
judge!
